Maxi Skirts

I would upload pictures of my actual outfits, but my camera is kaput and I am in desperate need of a new one. On the upside, I just bought two new maxi skirts! Adding to my exponentially growing collection. I'm super excited to wear them for the fall and winter instead of just warmer weather. At Urban Outfitters, the sale enabled me to buy two skirts for a mere $30, which is pretty darn good for the store.

I think that maxi skirts are extremely versatile. They can look especially chic and current with sweaters and scarves of all different colors. I love the look of using a maxi dress as a skirt with layers. Maxi dresses and skirts are an awesome way to get out of the boring leggings-every-day phase of winter. Hopefully this will also help to stray us away from the dreaded sweatpants.

Through the Decades by Free People

As is evident by just about every single one of my blog posts, I love Free People. I also love how it looks in italics. Their November catalog was released yesterday along with the YouTube video accompaniment. The concept of the November catalog was "Through the Decades," exhibits fashion from the 1920's, 50's, 70's and 2010. The video presents modern takes on these legendary styles. This has strengthened by belief that the entire 20th century's fashions, from the 20's to the 90's is coming back in new and exciting ways.
There is a section in People Style Watch entitled "Everything Old is New Again." This section has photos of iconic fashion moments throughout history, and then a photo of a current celeb wearing the same look. This again shows that trends repeat themselves and, now more than ever, we are seeing trends from every decade of the 20th century coming back, strong.

Sorcery Style

I have always had a fascination with witches. Who doesn't love magic?  I think one of the main reasons, is their unique attire. The costumes of witches have derived from Puritanic clothing of the 1600s (think Salem Witch Trials). Not all of the Puritans were considered one of the damned, but they all had similar clothing. Some elements of the "witch's" style back some 400 years ago that have translated into costumes and inspired clothing are:

- long, ankle grazing hemlines
- layered skirts
- black buckled hats
- corseted bodices (in more scandalous of outfits, used especially in costumes)
- laced up boots

Hocus Pocus

One of my all time favorite Halloween movies is Hocus Pocus. I have always been entranced not only by their spells and potions, but by their extravagant garments as well. Sarah Jessica Parker's character, naturally, is the most fabulous. The long sheer bell sleeves and corset bodice  add the perfect wicked touch. There are tons of fantastic clothes today reminiscent of the dark times of witches.

For a more modern take on the witch's hat, opt for a trendier, floppier version.

Happy Halloween :)

Fall Sweaters

One of my all time favorite trends for fall is sweaters. They can make any outfit look unique, and they signal the changing of the seasons. When I see people wearing sweaters; I think of the cool crisp air, crunching of leaves, Halloween, orange, red, hot chocolate, and my birthday. Fall is by far my favorite season, for all the reasons above and the clothing in general. It is refreshing to be able to dress in layers and wear new warm colors.
Sweaters provide the perfect transition between summer and fall, and fall into winter. I was more than thrilled when my email inbox was flooded with all of my favorite brands and online shopping stores telling me their new fall sweaters were in stock. With new sweaters come new sweater trends. It seems as though every style of sweater is being reinvented: the cardigan, the cropped, chunky, long, and more. Here are some I've been lusting for recently!

Moon Duster MaxiThis maxi sweater dress from Free People is extremely versatile and fits beautifully. It can be warn as a dress itself, or, more appropriately, layered over another dress, pants, or anything really.

This long striped sweater from Urban Outfitters showcases one of falls hottest colors: mustard. Although this color is somewhat unconventional, the sweater proves, with the right accessories and layering to create flattering silhouettes and aesthetically pleasing and unexpected combinations.

This sweater from Urban Outfitters perfectly exemplifies two of falls trends. We obviously see the sweater/sweater layering trend, but also the western style/Navajo inspired prints.

Stella McCartney

This black glossed wool and cashmere sweater from Stella McCartney is right on trend with mixed fabrics and classic black. This sweater can be dressed up for night with a black mini, tights, chunky heels and a small cross-body bag.
